I think Bush is giving AMPLE opportunity for Arafat to prove that he's more of a partner in peace, than a terrorist. Just as he's giving Saddam Hussein ample time to show he's willing to comply with the UN cease-fire terms at the end of the gulf war. Unfortunately, we have yet to see Arafat take the steps necessary for him to gain credibility has anything other than someone who prefers sending his people's children to blow themselves up, than in getting a chance to grow up. He has little real excuse for not making a SERIOUS and CONTINUED ARABIC announcement denouncing terrorism and commanding a halt to the suicide attacks. Of course, he recognizes that he has no ability to prevent them because those extremist groups would simply ignore his demands and thus, provide even more justification for further Israeli action and revealing him as the figurehead ruler of the PA, if not the facilitator of terror (by doing nothing to oppose it, and/or actually profiting from it, as exampled by the counterfeit Shekels the IDF discovered in his compound).. Rather, he prefers to sit back and whine about his "treatment" when, in fact, the Israel's are protecting him from his own extremist rivals. NOW SHOULD BE the time that he takes such direct statements to end this violence on the Palestinian side, not to encourage or ignore it... The Israelis are going to "clean house" whether he likes it or not. He would be well advised to let them do so, and use the opportunity to come out in an even stronger position by stating that there has been enough bloodshed and that he is calling upon international parties to intervene on behalf of both sides. I doubt he has the guts, or the wisdom, to take such an action.. Hawk
