The real undoing of the racial classification system of the late twentieth century has come from individuals choosing in large numbers to intermarry between the different "races". There are vast numbers of black/white, black or white/Asian, and other combination marriages. These marriages produce children, millions of them in the aggregate. And the census form or college application comes in, and the kids say, "which box should I fill in?" For awhile, they might fill in the one that helps them get the most favors and preferences, but in the end, their dilemma illustrates the hypocrisy of the whole system of racial classification. I tell my kids when they get a form asking for their race to check "other" and write in "human".
