niceguy767 - You wrote INTC is in checkmate if AMD's Hammer comes close to its hype!!! INTC's

And just where AMD be if the Hammer does not come close to its hype, or is even later than it now appears to be, or doesn't yield well, or that it it is just another desktop CPU?

Any one of those 4 outcomes can happen, just as your "hyped-Hammer" outcome.

Remember, niceguy767, if the Hammer can only compete on the desktop, it becomes merely an Athlon replacement, adding no incremental revenue streams to AMD's financials. It will then consume the current Athlon and the two Athlon follow-ons (Thoroughbread and Barton), which essentially will wipe out a lot of AMD development.

So, niceguy767, AMD's Hammer has an enormous downside possibility as well as an upside. But from all indications (remember Krewell's Kriticisms ?) the Hammer will not be an Intel killer - just like the Athlon was not an Intel killer - and just like the K6-2 was not an Intel killer and just like the K6-3 was not an Intel killer and just like the K6 was not an Intel killer and just like the K5 was not an Intel killer.

Your pollyanna projections need to be tempered with historical reality.
