MSFT getting into things like xbox might or not be the right thing to do, but what choice do they have? Isn't the office desktop software market pretty nearly saturated? And interest rates are down, so their cash won't bail them out.

Very interesting post - could you please explain what alternatives you are thinking of? Do you think it would have been better if they did the same, just instead not start msn, not producing xbox etc.?
