there are a few better choices than SIL.

Is PAAS on that list?

What else is a better leveraged silver play tha SIL in your opinion?

I hear you, Claude, zinc is big item for Apex
the total silver reserves for Apex dward most mining firms
of course they have massive zinc
I seriously doubt Bay has 100% gold & silver
nobody does
silver is mined with copper, zinc, lead in 99% of cases
and the pure cases are long drained, mostly Mexico

this is one area I am still learning
the financial side and its interrelationships are more my expertise now

here is the twist and new phenomenon I see coming
the recession has seriously cut down almost all mining operations
zinc and lead are each down something like 40% in price since 1999, maybe more
so many mines are shut down, and with them their silver production
this has led to the annual shortfall of 150 moz silver

soon with currency crises, coming of inflation, and international war tensions, gold will be moving into short squeezes and getting much attention
silver will tag along
soon the silver will be viewed as far more important than the zinc in Apex mines
it will be viewed as far more important than lead in other company mines

meanwhile, a financial force is at work heavily now
most mining firms are fighting to survive amidst the severe pressure from both the recession and precious metal price suppression
Apex Silver was set up with very deep pockets
PanAmerican Silver recently needed a near desperate infusion of funds to continue
they got it though
Apex has never been at risk

Bay may be a nice more pure silver play
but I would be very surprised if it is anywhere near 100% gold & silver in production
and as for cost, check late Feb Apex fiscal year news release on upcoming cost of San Cristobal Bolivia
they mention a $1.25 initial cost/oz, with lifetime mine cost of $1.70 /oz silver
I doubt Bay comes close to that
am I wrong?

and then aside from cost, Apex has perhaps the largest total silver reserves in their combined mines
am I wrong?

PanAmerican is second, thus #2 mktcap among silvers

sure, there may be better plays than Apex (SIL)
but we have several considerations
survival, lowcost, total reserves

help me out here, much appreciated
