GTC, I think Turbotax (with Quicken-Deluxe)is the most popular software for this purpose. It was reasonably fast this year, less than a half hour to Import transactions and make the Schedule D, I think. On an older computer (20mB RAM), it took 4-6 hours in '99 and '00 to generate the Schedule D from about 1500 and 2000 transactions and then plodded along multiple minutes per tax question. Glad I upgraded :)

Haven't heard of Gainskeeper.

thanks for the helpful info ken...I am going to be extremely busy the rest of the week at work, so will have to look at your program next week.....Have meetings and classes every night, another funeral on Wednesday, plus about 15-20 hours preparation time for Sunday's message and Bible classes....got to run...
