I don't think the 1X nomenclature has much sex appeal. 1X inside? Who cares? They need something more descriptive. How about something like FASTDATA? This at least carries the idea that with the QUALCOMM chip, you get fast data access. Or how about QUALCOMM HI-VELOCITY? Again, seems to me that the key idea is speed, which QUALCOMM has, and nobody else can even approach.

People around me would read 1X and pass on but 144K would definitely get their attention.

I think they should promote 1X in a matter that an average person would understand:

Wireless DOUBLE the speed of AOL
Wireless 144k
Fast Speed Wireless
Verizon 144K, SprintPCS 144K

I should have studied marketing!
