PA arrests those responsible for Ze'evy's murder as requested by Israel.

Jerusalem, 11 March 2002

Statement issued by Prime Minister's Office regarding Yasser Arafat
(Communicated by the Prime Minister's Media Adviser)

Today (March 11, 2002), the Prime Minister's Office issued the following statement:

Following the arrest of all the six persons wanted in the assassination of Minister Ze'evy, as demanded by Israel from the Palestinian Authority (PA), Prime Minister Ariel Sharon has decided to no longer restrict Chairman Arafat's movement throughout the PA territories.

The Prime Minister's insistence on the arrest of the murderers of Minister Ze'evy and their dispatchers, as well as the arrest of Fuad Shubaki, who is responsible for the PA's liaisons with Iran, coupled with the military pressure exerted on the PA and Chairman Arafat - is what brought about the arrest of all those wanted persons, in accordance with Israel's demands.

The Prime Minister's Office has also announced that in the event that the PA releases the Popular Front prisoners, the murderers of Minister Ze'evy or their dispatchers (all or some of them), or Mr. Fuad Shubaki - the State of Israel will see itself free to decide on the appropriate steps.

Oh BTW... Zeevi was one of seven ultra-nationalists to secede from Sharon’s coalition government. Despite his position, Zeevi was not particularly concerned with tourism and most widley known for his rigid anti-Palestinian positions. He called for the ‘transfer’ of Palestinians from the West Bank and Gaza Strip. He has also referred to the 1 million Palestinians living and working legally in Israel as ‘lice’ and a ‘cancer.’

I'm not condoning assassination but, let's face it, Sharon padded his administration with right wing nutjobs.

<<<Do you honestly not think that Saddam is presently the single deadliest threat to Western civilization on the face of the Earth?

Right now I think it's George Bush. Bush has the power to escalate the current situation globally. I wish him restraint, wisdom and guidance.>>>

But... the situation IS global... Remember WTC, Pentagon?

I have another question: Do you think that if Arab-Israeli dilemma finds a solution, the Al Qaeda underground army will lay down their weapons and go plow fields??

Saddam is dangerous but there are different ways of dealing with him short of an invasion and total destabilization of the area.

How about this:

1. US President does a "New Deal" for Iraq speech.
2. It's components are as follows:
. Saddam steps down and is granted asylum in, let's say France.
. The current Baathist party apparatus rules while a constitutional convention (under UN auspices)is held to create a federal republic.
. This constitution must establish religious and ethnic freedom for all parties.
. A "Marshall Plan" using Iraqi oil revenues to rebuild civic infrastructure. All sanctions removed.
. This constitution would disarm the Republican guards.
. The territorial integrity of Iraq would be garanteed by UN forces.
. Free and fair elections are held (monitored of course)
. Ok now you add a few.
