Tom,

I haven't had a chance to read the NYT article you reference; However, did see brief TV news report on this planned installation by JeBlue;

The commentator I saw never made any reference to downlinking the video data gathered on board; Seems that the sole objective is to keep the pilot's cabin isolated behind their newly secured door, while still maintaining pilot observation of passenger activities.

Any future plan to provide a continuous video downlink to officials on the ground would seem to offer a substantial opportunity for G*, but I have yet to hear a compelling case for why such a link is needed.

It's not at all clear (to me) what real security value would be added by such a downlink; Obviously security officials on the ground do need to know if/when pilot positions have been taken over by hostile passengers, but there's probably some more effective/efficient means of tracking/reporting that critical condition than a continuous video downlink of passenger cabin activities.

Other thoughts on the matter ?
