Bush-Cheney are not the ones to get us off oil. They are part of the oil business. John Kerry will be a proponent of getting off oil gradually when he runs in 2004, and it will be a very important issue, especially when the Enron-Bush-Cheney energy crisis evidence sees the light of day so we can see how corrupt the energy business has been. The way to get off oil is not simple but if we commit ourselves to the task we can gradually do it:

1) Hybrid cars at first
2) Higher fuel efficiency (which the GOP just squashed)
3) Major incentives to inventors of new clean engines
4) Major emphasis on hydrogen, solar, NG, etc.
5) Taxes put on gaz guzzlers of all kinds

This will be a big fight but it has been proven that so long as we make Arabs rich and can be blackmailed by them (remember the 70's oil embargo? see Saddam now?) we are paying a lot more for oil that what we pay at the pump.
In fact, if it weren't for our addiction to oil we wouldn't even have to fight these wars in that part of the world.

Oil will never disappear but they say we only have 40 years suppply of it left anyway so let's just start getting off it now. Also it's very very bad for the environment and we cannot afford much more pollution on this planet.
