Eric, Dr. J. is not alone.

We are first with 3G said South Korea's MIC
date: December 11, 2001

The Ministry of Information and Communication has informed major news organizations worldwide that South Korea was the first country in the world to put third-generation (3G) mobile network to use, the ministry said Tuesday.

In a letter to leading overseas news organizations, including Business Week and the Economist, the ministry said South Korea introduced 3G mobile technology prior to the launch of a 3G service in October by NTT DoCoMo of Japan.

The letter, sent by Rho Hee-do, chief of the International Cooperation Office at the ministry, also stressed that South Korea has been operating a pilot cdma200-1x EVDO 3G service since last month, which supports a maximum speed of 2.4Mbps.

SK Telecom last month announced that the company launched a field test of the world's first synchronized 3G(CDMA2000 1x EVDO, Evolution-Data Optimized) serviceon November 17, and was planning to initiate full-fledged commercial service by March 2002. The field test of the service was conducted at some areas of Seoul, Kwachon, and Anyang, then a full-fledged commercial service will be offered centering around Seoul and Kyonggi Province. SK Telecom plans to expand the service to 26 cities throughout the country starting in April 2002.

<< I see from your post today that you did you not mean that the Koreans were mislabeling DO when you said this. >>

That is absolutely correct ...

Well, what prevented you from specifically saying so on Saturday instead of writing a bunch of inane drivel? Why not have said 1Xrtt is 2.5G and DO is 3G instead of letting your lips flap in the cyberspace breeze with this this inane blunderbuss of an all-encompassing statement:

... SKT has launched 1xEV-DO, which THEY "label" as 3G in 800 MHz, not in the WRC-92 IMT-2000 2 GHz core spectrum that Korea astutely set aside for third generation services, and for which they hold 3G licenses to build out W-CDMA, and where they will start to build out W-CDMA next year ...

sktelecom.com

... and oh yes, WRC-2000 approved spectrum in 806-960 MHz band for the terrestrial component of IMT-2000, so there is no Hype, except on the QUALCOMM sponsored ALL HYPE "3G Today" website where someone is obviously trying to spin a silk purse out of a sow's ear by taking SKT's 2.5G numbers and labeling them 3G in order to try to convince people in Orwellian fashion that what was once an interim step to 3G, REALLY, HONEST TO GOODNESS IS 3G.

I know it's hard for you to admit that you're ever wrong or that you wrote a post that was so poorly drafted that it caused confusion, but it seems obvious to me that is exactly what happened.

And by the way, I had no quarrel with what you said about 1xrtt not being 3G. You are correct, it isn't, but that was not the bone I was picking. And I said before, it is an unimportant tempest in a teapot.

"THEY" in this case is SKT ... and "THEY" don't Need Dr. Irwin M. NomMarketing NumNuts Jacobs, or Dr. NumNuts Jacobs the Son, or Dr NumNuts Jacobs the Ghost's advice on how to market themselves to their local customer base or the global financial arena, since Dr. Irwin M. NomMarketing NumNuts Jacobs commands and leads one of the poorest and most incredible and uncredible marketing organizations in the world.

LOL! Don't hide how you feel, now.

Wassa matter? Didn't get the points right? Not enough Mylanta at home? <ggg>

horse puckey?

C'mon, you're an adult now. Get it off your chest. Repeat slowly after me, you'll feel a lot better:
