I'm not a huge Robert Wright fan, but he makes a point in his new Slate column that's pretty scary. Basically, he points out that one flaw in the hard-line-only approach comes from ignoring the spread of WMD. If these kinds of feelings metastasize on both sides--as currently seems likely--then there's going to be some serious hatred lurking out there in years to come, and if that ever intersects with the availability of nuclear weapons, it could be bye-bye Tel Aviv.

That doesn't make the resolution of the situation any easier now, given the problems on the Palestinian side, but it does give pause about the notion of maintaining the status quo (occupation) indefinitely...
