Albert, Re: him saying that terrorism is a matter of perception

I don't know why you are so upset and deliberately misinterpret my statement, so let's just examine what the phrase "matter of perception" really means. It just means that things can be interpreted differently according to your own situation and opinion. E.g. for probably everyone posting on this thread (including me) a suicide attack on civilians is a barbaric act of terrorism that is despicable. However, there are certainly some persons who think that it is a legitimate way of fighting back and that the suicide bombers are “heroes” -- otherwise they wouldn't resort to them. So IMO instead of labelling these persons "evil" we have to think about why they act and think the way they do and how we can help them change their way of thinking. Attacking them with methods not too different from their own won't change their state of mind -- they will only make it worse. Only if we try to solve the root of the problems we can hope to have a positive impact for the long term. It very convenient and easy to split the world in two different sides -- good and evil -- but that's not how thing work in reality. There are just different shades of grey and if we ignore this fact, we will make matters only worse. Mindless aggression has never been an effective way to solve problems. And I doubt that it will help in the current conflict.

Only serious peace efforts between Israel, the Palestinians and the Arabs could provide a long term solution IMO. The Saudi’s peace proposal is a good step in the right direction IMO and I hope that Powell will pick up on it on his mid east mission.
