When a priest publicly advocates sex between adults and children, as Father Shanley allegedly did, he has broken with church doctrine. When the Church hierarchy implicitly condones these activities, it too has separated from the spiritual enterprise.

The Church, as a spiritual institution with its head in the clouds, is being hoisted on its own petard of being too understanding and forgiving of the wrong people.

There is no evidence to suggest the Church was naive about the prevalence and scope of clergy sexual abuse. This smacks more of organized cover-up than merely "forgiving of the wrong people."

Aw shit, and just when I was beginning to like you again....

more and more an indictment of a predominantly male homosexual culture. The link between a priesthood that is 50% or more gay and the predatory sexual abuse of young boys cannot for much longer be denied. Does anyone truly doubt that if the Boy Scouts of America had let its scout leaders become a predominately gay group, and had as lax and permissive controls as the Church, that it would not be having the same problem?

How many times are we going to have to trot out the data that say that predatory sexual behavior is not linked to homosexuality?

and the statement about the Boy Scout leaders.... data please?

"This is becoming less of an assault on the Roman Catholic Church...and more and more an indictment of a predominantly male homosexual cult"

I think you need to make a choice as to who you wish to hate, Mr. Dithers.<g> Pedophiles can be either homosexual or heterosexual. This is not a theory. It is a fact.

It is also a fact that it is "safer" to sexually abuse young boys than it is young girls. This is known due to a sociological and statistically varified difference in the likelihood that males will report an offense.

As well...there is evidence that males who fail to resist a sexual advance are more likely to be willing participants that are females--females are congenitally less capable of resisting force. Also...there are sociological reasons why young males are "safer" to abuse, both from the perpetrators perspective, and from the perspective of the victim: Boys do not get pregnant; and pregnancy is extremely evidentiary.

Now, Mr. Dithers: You need to decide whom you wish to hate. Is it these people...

Paul II (1464-71).

Alexander VI (1492-1503)

Pope Julius II (1503-13)

Leo X (1513-21)

Julius III (1550-55)

Benedict IX (1032-44; 1045; 1047-48)

Boniface VIII (1294-1303)

Sixtus IV (1471-84)

SAINT AUGUSTINE...

...or is it the people who have been working for them...
