Thames_Sider,

Re: RGD:Apparently we have too many potential war criminals in the Administration and military command to take a chance on an embarrassing trial. <g>
T_S: I know you were joking, but this is a common POV.

I was trying to be moderate in my outrage. <g> Actually, it's worse than I stated:

salon.com

We already have convicted and exonerated/pardoned criminals working in the current administration. It's totally disgraceful. But, that's the Bush doctrine. We gotta use the "talent" we got. <g>

Re: my dislike is for the precedent rather than the President.

My protestation is for the process of perpetrating pornographic politics in the place of the people.

... I honestly don't think the US has much to fear trial for, and if it did there'd be a very long queue before it!

If every country gets an equal vote there would be enough that resent the US that would love to embarass us.

why should the most powerful nation on the planet submit to an alien court

Why should it?

or be equally happy to see tomorrow's giants likewise flouting the law because they now have the biggest armies...

1 - It isn't the law. Each country is a sovereign nation. Its only an agreement between nations, and those who have not signed and ratified it are not parties to the agreement.

2 - The next country to become the most powerful, or even current powers that are not as strong as the US (like China) are likely to ignore it if the court tries to act against them.

Poet - I just kindof stumbled in here for no particular reason. I don't think anything in my post is picking on liberals or liberalism, but if you think it is, I'll be happy to move this to one of the boxing rings.

The thread header states - "It is not intended to be an open political forum, rather a watering hole and safe place for lefties of all degrees to exchange ideas. "

and I am not a lefty, but I'm not sure that this court idea is a liberal/conservative issue.
