Hi Fred,
Remember Nixon went to China so there is always hope. The impact of the recent spate of suicide bombings may have changed the man. If the Saudi plan(with a few tweaks) could abolutely, positively prevent all future terror is some magical way of course he would sign on. 100% gurarantee of course impossible but with recogniton, dmzs, US/Nato troops, a wall, a fence, a moat, reduced roll for arafat as titular head of state, etc etc etc. One can hope because this situation is intolerable. What Israel must give up is the Greater Israel mentality that is embodied by the possible next PM Netanyahoo who really believes in that stuff. Better chance for peace with the gruff millitary man who has behaved badly at times than Slick BiBi and the settlers. mike

OT

The militias were sent into the camps to root out Palestinian fighters (not to give away cookies!). There was a legitimate military mission. The Christians turned it into a massacre and it was on Sharon's watch.

Sharon didn't just visit the "Dome Mosque". He visited the site of the ruins of the two Jewish temples in Jerusalem, Solomon's Temple and the temple built after the Babylonian exile. This is the holiest site in Judaism. Do you really believe a visit to a holy site provoked an intifada? What provoked it was that Arafat's bluff was called by Clinton and Barak!
