>Joe, don't the Ashkenazi Jews in Israel consider themselves a step above the semitic Jews. And if true, how do you think they perceive the Palestinians? And wouldn't that make it a racial issue as well as religious?

Well, sort of. Actually, I'm discussing this right now with my friend, who is a Sephardic Israeli... for a while that was true, as the Ashkenazis were better educated and more wealthy, and they did look down on the Sephardim. Now, it's all evened out, and that doesn't really exist anymore.

Damn, don't you guys know anything about your origins? Actually, may be I shouldn't you guys.....I can't remember if you said you were Jewish or not.

In any case, the Sephardic and Ashkenazi Jews are the two branches of European Jewry. The Semitic Jew is one of the tribes of the Semites that also includes the Arabs. The Semites were mostly from Southwestern Asia and Northern Africa. It was the Semitic Jews who complained of discrimination.

The Sephardic Jews were mostly from Western Europe and the Ashkenazi Jews were mostly from Eastern Europe and spoke Yiddish.........all of this info is drawn directly from Websters.
