I wasn't posting to you, but supporting Solon's point that "the Good Book" is a misnomer. I guess there, the "point" was missed. Religious tolerance in this country is one-way. If you are Christian you are tolerated, if not, you'd better keep a low profile. The very people who squawk all the time about the protection of their religious rights have the rest of us steeped in it. I like Christmas, but from my POV it was stolen from Pagan traditions which were all about surviving the darkness of winter in circumpolar regions. It doesn't make sense to celebrate the solstices and equinoxes (except as a passage of time) in subtropical regions (like North Africa) because you have a 9-12 month growing season. When you are pitched into near darkness for many hours a day, and have only 4-5 months to get ready for the next chill, it is quite the event when it ISN'T getting darker each night. If you want to do a reality check, look at the change in your pocket or the bills in your wallet or, look at the many places where you still take the witness stand and place your hand on the bible when you "testify". Now, there's an interesting word - "testify". Several meanings there, aren't there? Quite frankly I'm sick of everyone elses' Christianity being forced on the rest of us who don't subscribe to that philosophy. I've felt this way since I was nine or ten. I've been Presbyterian and Unitarian, both of which embraced a personally defined religious space, but neither which resonated for me. You won't find me out chastising those institutions for craming their religion down people's throats. With that said, I did find the missionary work of the Presbyterians objectionable. I think aid should be given without religious strings attached. Unitarians do this properly (IMO). BTW, I'm most certainly not an atheist. Solon is also on record as not being an atheist. So, once again, anyone who is not Christian is, by a parochial definition, an atheist. That is my POINT.
