I am sure there are Muslims who feel that way about the 9/11 bombers. No doubt there are millions and millions of them who are quite unhappy about that PR. We can't do much about the impression our country leave with others- the only things we can control is the impression we make.

In that place visitors were judged solely on whether they were threat or asset under the circumstances, and those people set about making themselves assets straight away ... after a few funny incidents with language and customs, which provided amusing stories later .... there was nothing about nations or -isms or suchlike, it was just a people thing

There are xenophobes in all corners of the planet, of course ... most of us aren't though, we're just folks ... certainly the Great Machine of the US is feared and loathed to varying degree all over, such power concentrated in so few hands is to be rightly feared, but to most people in most places that does not rub off on the individual US national, until they choose to make it so ... best self-introduction in a place like that - 'i am a poor man in my own country' ... and you'd be surprised maybe at the width of world view of the pre-industrial aboriginal living in a village far from the grid .... we start out wide by nature, and get narrowed down later by nurture, maybe

Hey, Cos, I just finished watching Ashcroft on Letterman. I had taped it the other night. I know you will be pleased to learn what I learned about Ashcroft. The guy's an environmentalist. No kidding!

That song that he wrote and spontaneously performed, Let the Eagles Soar, was inspired by the return of the bald eagle to his home from the brink. He associated this fortuitous event with a surge of patriotism and was inspired to write the song. I'm just so tickled that he appreciates how patriotic DDT regulation is...

Think of what Adolph has done to the name Hitler.

Or what he did to the name Adolph. Do you know anyone born after WWII named Adolph? The only person I know personally with that name is in his seventies.
