Because the horse may laugh.

I hope Peggy Noonan is right, Nadine, because, on the surface, the Bush administration looks hopelessly confused.

I watched the "Lehrer Report" on PBS tonight and the footage they used was devastating to Israel. They might as well have held up burned babies. I really am disturbed by all this so-called "Senior White House Staff" leakage. We have had none of that from Bush up to now, so it must be deliberate. But, all I can do is stew and say "TWT"

Well, we're all in agreement that Israel/Palestine appears to be an insoluble problem. However, I was very relieved when the US, the EU, the UN, and the Soviet Union are in agreement that Israel should withdraw. Why? Because I perceive the subtext to be this: the situation may spin out of control, it may consume the Middle East, but the conflagration will not spread to the rest of the world.

I would far rather that nuclear weapons are not used in the Middle East, but greatly relieved to realize that if they are, it will stop there.

I recognize that it is entirely possible that Al Qaeda or another group which is not a nation-state may set off nuclear explosions or dirty bombs in the US or elsewhere, but that won't lead to WWIV, either.
