Suicide Bomb Kills Several People at Jerusalem Market; 30 Hurt
By Heather Langan

Jerusalem, April 12 (Bloomberg) -- A suicide bomber killed several people near a crowded Jerusalem market, hours after U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell held talks with Israeli officials in an effort to get a cease-fire between Israelis and Palestinians, CNN reported, citing police.

``A number'' of people were dead and 30 more wounded in the blast, CNN cited police officials as saying.

The bombing was at a bus stop, police told CNN. It is not certain if the bomber was on a bus that pulled up when the blast occurred.

U.S. President George W. Bush sent Powell to halt an escalation in the conflict, after a series of suicide bombings by Palestinians and the March 29 move by the Israeli army into Palestinian towns and villages in the hunt for terrorists.

Powell said he will stay in the region ``as long as is necessary'' for his mission to make progress.
