thx for this find on strained silicon. Seems to be a variant of Si/SiGe structures.. The article only compares Si vs. GaAs. But SiGe is currently cited as having the same speed tolerance that GaAs has while enabling the ability of using most of the Silicon toolset and process designs.. Would be interesting to compare SiGe vs. strained silicon... SiGe is mainstream now. For example, Multilink (MLTC) one of my holdings in my porftolio recently replaced a number of GaAs OC-192 designs with SiGe chips..
