(Photo: Channel One) The Israel Defense Forces and the Shin Bet security service arrested a young Palestinian woman last week who intended to infiltrate Israel disguised as a pregnant woman and carry out a suicide bombing in Netanya. The woman, Shaffa Adnan Amin Kudsi, 26, a divorced mother of an 8-year-old daughter, was arrested with the help of accurate intelligence information oreceived by the Shin Bet. An IDF force entered Palestinian-controlled territory in the West Bank village of Tul Karm and arrested Kudsi at her parents' home. She has since been held in a Shin Bet jail in Israel. Her brother was also arrested on charges of trying to carry out a suicide bombing against Israeli soldiers. The IDF and the government granted the American television station CBS an interview with her, which was then broadcast on the CBS news. At the beginning of the interview, she told of how she was arrested, and throughout the interview stressed that the arrest was carried out "forcefully." Kudsi said that on Thursday night IDF troops encircled her parents' house, and that when her father stepped out on to the balcony the soldiers shot towards him. "The soldiers entered the house and asked about me. When I told them my name, they ordered my mother to hold my hands and not let go. They searched me in front of my whole family. The soldiers were brutal towards me and my family, who were very scared," she said. When asked whether she intended to carry out an attack she said, "Yes, I wanted to be a shahid (martyr) for my country because of what the Jews are doing to my people in Nablus, Ramallah and Bethlehem." Kudsi was also asked when she made her decision to become a shahid and if it was her own decision or not. "I did it when I heard about a mother and four children who were killed by soldiers. I decided to exact revenge for their blood. It was my decision. I decided upon it a week ago," she answered. "I do not belong to any organization," she said, "It was my decision. I met someone, I don't remember his name, and we started planning it." She added that she intended to carry out the attack with an explosive belt. She said she chose Netanya because, "I know Netanya. I meant to enter Netanya and kill Jews. I hadn't had time to plan exactly where. If I wouldn't have succeeded, I would have attacked soldiers with a knife." When reminded that if she would have succeeded in her mission she would have died and harmed innocent Israeli civilians, she said, "I don't care. I am doing it for my country. What, is their blood different than ours? They kill old people and children every day, so we will hurt them too." Kudsi added that she wasn't worried for her daughter, who would have become an orphan if she had succeeded. "My daughter would have been proud of me because I would have become a shahid for my country and for her."
