Joe, there is no deliberate attempt on my part to avoid a subject. If there is something missing from my posts, then you need to make clear what it is.The subject is that the Palestinians found a weapon which Israel con't stop, which is the suicide bombers. I have a feeling (just a WAG) that they (Palestinians) are thrilled beyond belief that they are more or less fighting Israel on the level playing field, (at least in their minds), and all the other things (desperate living conditions) don't really matter as much at this time. The leaders may be thrilled about finding something that gets the world's attention focused on them. I can not account for their emotions at any given moment. However, for the people in general, any good feelings a successful suicide bombing may provide them has to be fleeting. I guess they may see it as a win against Israel but I can't believe it takes the place of feelings that would be engendered if they had a good job or a nice home. I still contend that the average Palestinian wants the same things that the average American or Israeli wants. There is a thrill in hurting the rich and powerful. You should know it, since you are a representative of a party which has this at the center of its platform, and would be reduced to the size of Greens instantly if this plank was removed. I don't belong to either party and I am unclear what the plank is that you are talking about. As someone who is middle to upper middle class, I find it offensive the money some of the wealthy throw around but would I feel any pleasure if they were hurt physically or financially. My answer would be no. What kind of mind [and I am talking about yours] would think that's that what anyone would want for someone who is better off? Besides, the issue you cite is an American one.........I believe the struggle in Palestine goes well beyond it. Anyway, Palestinians have far more grievences on top of this one: territorial claims, the natural (or acquired) distaste for Jews etc. Anyway, they brought the terror to the streets, malls, cafe's of Israel, and it is thrilling to them. Was it also thrilling for them when the Zionists were on the attack, and encouraged them to leave their homes? You talk about the Palestinians as if they were sub human. Is that what you think?Back to the original subject, Powel and Rice talk about the steps both sides need to take simultaneously to lower the tension. The failing of this "plan" is that that it assumes that both sides find the present situation (suicide bombings/retaliations) undesirable. But I am guessing that one side (Palestinian) finds the current situation (suicide bombings / retaliations) highly desirable, and they have no incentive to stop. It seems to me neither side has any intention of stopping. Of course, Sharon from time to time says the right words but then does pretty much the opposite. That's why people in general are very worried. Both sides think they have God on their side, but what they don't realize is that God left the arena a long time ago, and they are on their own. ted
