He didn't say "self-righteous," he said "righteous," which is of course very different, and was enough of a compliment in his mind that he was moved to send a copy of his recommendation to the Admissions Committee to my father. Although I hadn't thought of it until you mentioned it, the choice of that unusual adjective might indicate that he was religious. First computer problems, now this.
