Northern Ireland once looked just as hopeless. It's been quiet for a while now. Maybe there is hope.

There's been some fairly recent flare ups in NI. Understandably, it gets more air time over here. However, from what I've read, the people in Northern Ireland expected flare ups and are committed to returning to the peace process.

There was a phrase that originated from the American Irish...guessing c 1900. "Forgive, but never forget." That's an attitude that goes a long way towards a peace process. "Forgive", isn't a word that the Palestinians or Israeli have used a lot....but they're all for the "but never forget part." They got that phrase knocked.

Interesting link found by teevee on the Foreign Affairs thread.
