PMSW, I've bookmarked that site.

Someone suggested to me that I try to INSIST, since I have a 5 year extended onsite warranty from Gateway(this computor is less than a year old), I also try to INSIST that the tech person, when he/she comes to the house, save my old system using something like Norton Ghost and simply put it on the new hard drive I will have INSISTED I be given instead of writing zeros.

I wonder if that's possible. Would offering the tech person money to do this be a reasonable and not unethical thing to do, do you think? And if so, how much?

(Assuming I can successfully do the insisting on a new hard drive part....)

And any thoughts about XP Home Edition, particularly for a really computer-challenge person?
