AS,

I've never been on the North Slope, but I did spend some time on Adak in Aleutians. The environment there is as "impacted" as you can imagine. Oil spills, red tides, non-stop high winds, and unexploded munitions from WWII, yet from my observations the local wild life was doing fine. The park service now maintains a station there. Once I saw what must have been about 40 Bald Eagles gathering between the airfield & harbor. An absolutely stunning sight. I do agree that once the tundra is disturbed it never grows back. However it's my understanding that ANWAR has permafrost not tundra (I could be wrong).

Yes I agree that Exxon, Chevron, and the others are in the business of making a profit. I don't know if these test wells results company proprietary, it they are the Energy Department should commission it's own survey. The wheel of profit is what keeps me feed and clothed and happy. I'd very much prefer to see my money go to Alaska then Saudi Arabia.
