Churches/religious orders don't generally respond with alacrity to public protests, opinion polls and the like. They are not that type of entity. I do believe the situation has been tolerated for far too long and that there may even be some criminal complicity by Law and others in such matters as Shanley, Paquin and Geoghahn....... Housecleaning must begin soon if the Catholic Church is to survive....

I can agree that the Vatican's recent "call to action" is in response to the protests rather than to the abuse, which is absolutely despicable.

The abuse has been tolerated, without doubt.
