I'm not particularly impressed with the quote "moral clarity" this writer brings to the task, though he struggles hard to tell us he is doing just that and Joel Greenberg did not.

One way to read stories is in terms of their silences. Stephens did that with Greenberg. Fine. But Stephens elects to keep silent about the structural reasons of despair that provide the conditions within which her actions make sense to her and, presumably, to her family.

One needs to try to tell the whole story before reaching something called "moral clarity." It might just be a bit muddied/gray by the end of the story.
