re: Sync Channel

No <g>

....

Basically the Koreans stymied in Steering Committee Ad Hoc on Sync Channel just like they did in TSGC where this should be decided, so the Steering Committee bounced it back to TSGC.

We really don't have any visibility since March 18 other than the fact that there was supposed to be a face to face again on April 2, in Toronto - but we don't know what happened there so we have to assume that:

- Addendum 3 text is now being worked on and this basically will be along the lines of what Qualcomm has been proposing since late last summer which was finalized in November - and is essentially what Motorola and Nokia have proposed or are backing. Final text is due by Friday (19th)

- The Steering Committee ad hoc on Sync Channel will meet May 12 to see if they can agree on a standards based solution (Addendum 3).

- They'll announce their conclusions to the TSGC plenary on May 13 (whether or not they agreed).

- "If the findings of the Sync Channel ad hoc are inconclusive, then TSG-C is instructed to proceed forward with release of Revision A Addendum 3 Sync channel fix by May 17 2002." ... which probably means another ballot by the 17th.

Essentially we are right back where we were in December ...

... but there is urgency to complete and get on with things so I'm guessing that Addendum 3 (the standards based workaround to the sync channel issue) will be approved and if it is finalizing specifics will be prioritized, and final development will begin on Release A will begin and we'll see it implemented in the US next year. I'm guessing mid-year (and my guess is probably as good as anyone's ... but no better <g>).

As for the Koreans, screw em, what gets implemented there really doesn't concern me ... except we have to hand it to them because they approach implementation from standards balls out with utmost dedication and probably will work the kinks out of Release A just like they have everything else in the history of CDMA (with Qualcomm assistance of course).
