Our schools in Calif are closer to Neo's than Ann's. Lots of homework, kids work hard, lots of parents involved in school activities. I suppose it depends greatly on the individual community.

If anything, there is TOO much pressure to overachieve. Kids are starting to show the strain of parental academic pressure. Don't get me started on the techniques they use for this so-called 'better education'; mostly rote learning with little emphasis on understanding. Currently, my eldest is trying to memorize all the state capitols; clearly a necessary skill <sigh>

I'm happy to hear that, Neocon. Evidently, all public schools are not created equal.(eom)
