That is a large problem in the West--- too much land is tied up by the federal government, and, in effect, subject to environmentalist meddling. I am not surprised at the figure for fundraising. These groups are relentless lobbyists for retaining pristine wilderness for yuppies to handglide in......

You remind me of another issue. A friend gave me a list of charities qualified as such by the IRS. Also he gave me a list of charities which met the standards of the Better Business Bureau and another group who also rates charities. One of the criteria that both groups shared was that a charity must distribute at least 50% of its intake for charitable purposes. This is an abysmal standard. I am not sure 80% is high enough. It was amazing how few charities met the criteria.
