"open trade with Israel"....don't you mean the Israeli's would cut-off their source of menial labor? Or does trade to you mean as in 'trade sweat for shekels'?

As long as the dream is to eject Jews from the region and install Islamic law, can a fence really accomplish much about the underlying problem ? Look at Gaza. Fewer problems. But it's not a great solution - leads to nasty conditions for both Israelis and Arabs. But you're right, there does have to be a resolution of palestinian aspirations for freedom and Israeli requirement for security. It does mean the Israelis have to give up the settlement policy and the palestinians have to give up the destroy Israel policy.
