Mani, Re : "3 years ago Intel a complete monopoly in the biggest technology sector, with huge margins. AMD, well we all know how AMD was"

if you followed the Intel thread in 1998, the assessment about Intel sounded like you described today (Kurlak days). Things sound horrible during a semi downturn. Todays margins are better than margins in 1998. Just watch as these run up to high 50s in the next few quarters, when the new process kicks in (.13 and 300mm) high gear. I truly believe that AMD or the Y2000 screwups are not the real problems with huge long-term impact. In many ways Intel vs AMD is helping both Intel and AMD increase volume sales of CPU at lowered ASP. They are in the process climbing up the high-end space and will start making money in that space. The real problem for Intel is its size IMO. How can any company this big keep up the growth rate, that everyone is used too. Just look around at other tech companies and you will find that Intel is done much better than most other large hi-tech company in one of the worst downturn ever.
