do you think 70k a year is just getting by or do you agree with the statistic that 70k+ is the portion of boomers who are better off?

If I read the Census numbers right, median household income in the US is about $62k/year. I suspect this number may have come down(?) because it was only $47k in 1994. That's an awful lot of income growth in six years.

Though if you think about it, Skillings alone was probably worth a fiver a year.

EDIT: Now I see other data showing it as $42k...

Well, is it family of 4 income or a single?, for family of 4 I don't think you can save much if anything. But I'm a typical American who wants to live in a nice neighborhood and send my kids to GOOD schools.
