I think that "falling in love" with one's German shepherd would constitute a meaningful abnormality.

Is that limited to German shepherds? Would it apply to Golden retrievers? If it does, I think I may be in big trouble. ;-)

For whom does it have this "meaning". Normal and abnormal are statistical terms, at best, and not meaningful without using arbitrary limits. So, it is outside of the 2 SD confidence band and that has meaning to statisticians. So what? So is feeling romantic when your wife wears her Mickey Mouse ears...
