Another idea about how to deal with ANWAR is to turn it into a gigantic strategic petroleum reserve. That is, install all th equipment / infrastructure so that drilling (or actually pumping) can start. But don't start, until there is a national security need, or the oil prices go through the roof. But pumping the oil whilee Arabs ar selling the oil to us for peanuts makes no sense to me.

I would not have been opposed to such a measure. And I think if the Democrats were at all motivated by anything other than politics they would have been willing to pursue an arrangement like this.

The fact is that the Democrats are playing politics with our national security. Nothing new, but it is a sad state of affairs.
