Whereas for others of us, we see the tapping of that oil and the potential damage it may cause the environment as the crime.

I will give you a chance to prove Dick Armey wrong (when he said that liberals are shallow thinkers):

You use oil regularly. This oil has to come from somewhere. The oil has to get to the gas tank of your car somehow, and along the way, there are numerous risks, that the oil/gas will cause environmental damage.

Joe, once again conservative thinking is only able to see in black and white and not the grays in between. That's right, I use oil.....I really don't have a lot of choice in the matter since I live in the same economy as everyone else and I am not fanatical on the issue. However, if people in this country used oil as sparingly as I do, I suspect we would not have to import any oil........and again, I am not one of the fanatical types.

Having said that, I accept the need for oil until the time comes when we change the fuel that runs our economy. Therefore, my intent is to use it as sparingly as possible and if I had my druthers this country would go on a long overdue oil diet. It would do our trade deficits some good and maybe allow us to be more honest in our foreign diplomacy.

One other thing.......I find a recurrent theme in conservative rhetoric both on and off this thread that liberals tend to be deficit in the brain department. The primary use of this theme is to diminish the views and suggestions of liberals. Just so that you know.....I think its horsesh*t and acts as a smokescreen to hide the true motives of conservatives.

Can you bridge this gap for me, between the continued use of oil and oil products an your claim that it is a crime?

The crime is gluttony. Formerly a sin, in an ever shrinking world with diminishing resources, it's now become a crime.

Furthermore, I see it as a natural, almost instinctive imperative that more and more people are growing concerned about the environment and trying to prevent more damage to it.

How exactly are these people trying to prevent more damage, in a liberal way (meaning voting for some feel good measure or law) or in a real way, which is not driving a car, not using the heat, AC, not going beyond the walking distance from the house (or possibly going further on a horseback)?

Both.......voting for measures as well as lower room temps, recycling all plastics, walking vs driving, riding your bike to work, taking the bus or commuter rail, taking the train to other cities, et al.

Here in Seattle some people use cloth bags for groceries; however, many do not. So a law was passed that the recyclers must recycle the plastic bags found in supermarkets. The recyclers didn't like it becuase they don't make much $$$ on the bags. However, they do do well with other recyclable materials so they live with it. Strange how liberals can be clever sometimes, huh?

I know that the leading liberals of the present and past of this thread are more interested in feel good measures than taking a leadership by putting their personal comfort online, where their mouth is. Prove me wrong.

If you are asking me, do I conserve? I think you know the answer to that question. If you are referring to Scumbria owning an SUV, that surprised me as well. I think Scumbria's concern with image interfered with his political views.

And I am well familiar with the arguments by the oil interests and how they clearly think they can prevent any spillage.

Well, since you are one of the oil interests (consumer) maybe you can let me know what you are doing to prevent spillage.

That's easy........fighting your friends [your fellow conservatives] who want to drill in the ANWR.
