I'm not sure there was an a priori sully in many cases, K. Many people experiment with behaviors, and it is only after having initiated those behaviors that the negative psychological manifestations appear.

For example, I imagine there have been a number of otherwise well-adjusted teenagers who decided to experiment with crack, and only after smoking it began to manifest the symptoms of addiction and its attendant problems.

Extended practice of this behavior deepens the depth of the problems.
