Darlene,

I don't buy into the idea that these kids can not save money. I was fortunate and my parents put me through school, but I got my butt in gear and got my degree in 3 years. You should have seen the dumps I lived in and the car I drove after college. In these dumps we shared a room with another person and some rooms had three occupants and bathrooms were shared across a fair number of us. Would take every check and put as much in a saving account as humanely possible. No way in heck was I going to ask my parents for more money or let them think I was financially irresponsible.

My daughter did the same, she is 40 years old these days. She lived in dumps with a room mate and kept her college car going, saving every penny she could. She got lucky and had enough money saved to bid on RTC houses and got one for a minimum bid. It needed a lot of work but she rolled up her sleeves and did most of the work herself.

For some reason or other the kids these days think they need fancy apartments, think the latest technology TV's and sound systems are a requirement of life, a new car is a requirement of life, a "new" computer is a requirement of life, restaurants are a requirement of life, a cell phone is a requirement of life, and on and on and on!!! None of this is a requirement of life!!!!!!

Sorry for the rant.

Take care,

Joan
