(IE: Ancient Israel)cumber.edu And it includes a good portion of Jordan's western-most territory.mideastweb.org However, no one seems to be pressing King Abdullah to "donate" that to the proposed Palestinian state... I wonder why not?? Btw, one must also keep in mind the origin of the name "Palestine" and what it represents. The name was introduced by the Crusaders, who being Jew hating Christians (not that Christians hate Jews, but they did then), probably did not want to call it Israel.palestinefacts.org And one more issue is that many scholars state the name "Palestine" is a hebrew derivation of the word peleshet, the land of the Philistines. And if this is the case, then we have to look to see what reasonable territorial claim the Philistines can make with regard to the geography: bible-history.com Hmmm.... I don't see the West Bank included there... And more importantly, if the Palestinians claim descendancy from the Philistines, then they have even less claim than the Jews, as they invaded the nation of Israel (who had taken it from the Canaanites, who had taken it from someone else.. :0) People easily flings names and titles around, but few ever really attempt to investigate the origin of them, or whether it helps or detracts from the case they are trying to make. But in reality, none of this matters... Because what this amounts to is a battle of wills between two different peoples.. one with a definite historical claim to the region, and the other much more dubious... And all of it initiated by the conquest and partitioning of the former Ottoman Empire. Hawk
