I think if Qcom can roll out HDR which is their 2.4 Mbs technology, it will blow GSM out of the water. That would provide for data rates well beyond what you can get with a cable modem and you can do it wirelessly. That is all I will say about that.

SM, GSM is a dead end technology. GSM carriers are deploying GPRS and some will deploy EDGE, but all of them, in all countries are moving to WCDMA or CDMA2000 over the next few years (most to WCDMA).
