wbmw, re: "It appears as if AMD is only intending Clawhammer to be UP only"

IIRC the CC noted that Opteron would apply to the dual Claw and multi Sledge iterations.

Wanna: I think there was a slight change. Originally, Clawhammer was supposed to have a DP version set for Q1 2003, but now DP operation seems to be reserved for "Opeteron" - which had been set for a H1 2003 launch. It appears as if AMD is only intending Clawhammer to be UP only; that is, unless, it "unofficially" supports DP operation, a la Athlon XP.

Opteron is simply a marketing name. For simplicity, AMD has thrown all MP (includes DP) under the Opteron umbrella, including the chip formerly known as ClawHammer DP.

This seems to make a lot of sense from a marketing standpoint, IMHO.
