I have merely said that the default position is against federalization of an issue, and that there should be some caution about pressing issues that are bound to create a backlash. I recollect that very well, I assure you. It is the very reason I cannot understand why you would support Ashcroft federalizing this or even making an issue of it from his bully pulpit. I don't see why, "after all of this time," you don't understand my questioning you on it. I understand your appreciation of Ashcroft acting out of conscience, but surely you don't think that his personal conscience should trump the federalizing principle. I find federalizing a personal hobby horse utterly inappropriate, although not unexpected.
