I do not think that a concern with going down one more slippery slope, or corrupting the medical profession, is merely a personal hobby- horse. The question of whether assisted suicide is a proper use of a controlled substance arises readily, and may be covered by federal statute. Ashcroft argued that it was. I do not know enough about the statute to know if his position were reasonable, or obvious over- reach.
