assuming that we would know that plo is at the root, what would you personally want US to do?

If the PLO was at the root of it, Israel would get a green light to take out anything related to the PLO in the West Bank and Gaza, while we would go after them in other places. If other ME countries tried to shelter them then their fate might be that of the Taliban. You would be talking about a number of American deaths that would exceed the total from all the wars in the 20th century and probably more then all the wars in our history (I don't feel like looking up the totals now). If we had to mobilize to stop it we would. The US could double the size of its armed forces if it was needed (but it probably wouldn't be). With that much to drive American anger anyone even loosely associate with terrorism that is considered a US enemy might be on the target list. Saddam would be the most obvious target after the PLO (and Hammas and Hezbollah and so forth). We could invade without any bases if we where willing to accept the casualties and hundreds of thousands of dead civilians would make us willing to accept a few thousand dead soldiers in the war. If for some reason our conventional forces couldn't get the job done and nukes would be useful, then we probably would use nukes. (but I don't think that our conventional forces would be inadequate or their nukes would be useful).

I don't think that what Israel is going through is really the equivalent of 180 9/11s. Yes a percentage of
their population it might be (I haven't done the math) but I don't think some small island with 285 people
would feel the death of one of them as much as the US would feel the death of a million.

However Israel has experienced enough that I think the attacks against the PLO and Hammas have been
justified.

Ted would probably be for an increase of financial aid in hopes that after they would become richer and more powerful than US the attacks would stop. It is completely irrelevant that there would be another 180 or 360 attacks of that proportions until we would make them happy. If we would not manage to make them happy then we would not need to consider farther actions - we would be as good as dead.....

Albert, I am convinced only when the Israeli truly accept their role in this mess and are willing to make the necessary restitution.....then there will be a lasting peace in the Middle East. As for the US, I think our intentions have been misguided and we are the enabler who have made it possible for the Israelis to put off the inevitable.

If you read the history of the region carefully and filter out the biases, its clear that the Palestinians are not happy for good reason. The inequities that developed over the course of the 20th century have created a rage and anger that will not be stopped easily. Sharon and his war machine will have to kill every last Palestinian for their to be some peace. And if that were to happen, the Arab nations would declare war on Israeli and so that peace would be very fleeting.
