Art,
I assume you are kidding???

This is an oxymoron:
U.S. rumored to be ready to sell gold to cut balance of payments deficit and maintain a strong dollar.

1 Unless they wanted to sell all of the US gold it wouldn't do much to the BOP at current gold prices.

2 Selling gold would not result in a strong dollar. Over the last 5 years plus we've talked many countries from smallest to Britain Austrailia and the Swissies into selling gold, look where there currency is compared to dollar? BTW, the Swissies are still selling gold, right now, but that's not why their currency is up. It's up because their economy is sound, they don't have BOP problems and they've got plenty of gold left after their done selling:

3 I heard a rumor that it's against the law to sell US gold reserves. What do you think??

4 The US won't even acknowledge leasing, which they may or may not have done or be doing. Guess they would be embarrassed to acknowledge getting a 1% return on an asset going up 10%??? The BOE certainly caught some grief for it.
Rumor has it the BOE would have to BUY gold now to join the EU. What do you think??

On second thought Art, judging from your history of posts in techland, I believe you are just baiting the gold bugs!

At least try a new joke and not one we've heard a hundred times before!!

LOL!
