I guess we have hashed all this over before, but old warriors like to keep telling the same stories. I had what was for me a huge short position in XLK all through 1999-2000. I see it's down to about 18 now, but I was holding at 60. I think I got in at about 36. I knew the market would break sooner or later but I had to sell a lot of other stuff to hold that short position. Eventually I got all my money back plus about 10%, which was not very good for two years' investing but better than going broke. And because some fortunate puts (AMZN, YHOO, CMGI, the earlier AOL, PVN, etc) paid off, I ended with a pretty decent profit. It wasn't until last year that I really hit it big, shorting and covering QQQ eleven times as it jagged down and not misjudging too badly my DJZ puts. Plus I caught the big boom in oil and gas.

I never, ever, intended to "invest" like this. Like trying to cut steaks off the cattle in the middle of stampede. I really am basically a Ben Graham type.

Earlie, cautious bears are the only kind who have survived on this thread, after all...

Just ask Myth. <g>
