You know what it is, I think? The Catholic Church, more than any other Christian sect, focuses on the idea of confession and absolution of sins. Maybe a Church that believes that sins can be wiped clean by prayer has a hard time punishing, with any lasting effect, the bad behaviour of a priest who asks for absolution.

I'm really trying to understand this. It certainly isn't the way my church goes about these things...
